Let the Credits Roll

If you were to sit and watch the credits roll at the end of a movie you could be sitting there for what seems like hours. Half of the time the titles of some positions are so random and make no sense, but they all help in the movie making process and deserve credit. But if you were to compare the the credits from a movie in the '20s, '30s and so on, the list keeps getting longer. The article Coolnes: The Evolution of Movie Credits shows the credits from movies over the years. It's pretty ridiculous how may people are now involved.

  1. I never truly thought about it before, but you make a good point to mention all of the pointles job titles involved in movie making today. Obviously, movies are so much more advanced from the 40's and 30's, most of the added jobs are actually necessary for today's movie industry. The link you posted was a good insight into how much the industry has changed. Eventhough The Lord of the Rings is a personal favorite of mine, and it did extremely well at the box office, some would argue that it doesn't hold up to a classic such as Casablana. Casablance clearly did very well for itself without all of the extra camera crews, assitant directors, folley artists, gaffers, etc. As mentioned before, those jobs did not even exist yet. It is hard to argue what is necessary and what is not when the movie industry is so much more advanced than it has ever been. So what aspects are necessary, which are not, and who is to decide?
