The Roaring '20s
Motion pictures really started to flourish in the 1920s. And this website focuses on the progression of film from 1920 and throughout the decade. Back then most movies were made mainly on the West Coast and some were made in New Jersey, so not much has changed. Genres were established in the '20s and have stuck throughout the years. There were five big studios: Warner Brothers, Paramount, RKO, MGM, and Fox Film Corporation. Three minor studios were established and they were Universal, United Artists, and Columbia. Looks like things have changed because a Cloumbia and Universal are major studios now and I've never heard of RKO and United Artists. And most people are unaware that the largest output of feature films in the US occurred in the 1920s and 1930s,averaging about 800 film releases in a year, nowadays, it is remarkable when production exceeds 500 films in a year.This website also focuses on the movie stars of that era and it is interesting and kind of wierd to see how the stars are different compared to current stars. A lot has changed, but not much has swayed from the foundations of film.

I think that it is crazy that there were that that many films produced on average in the 20's. With the technology that they had then, they had to always be working overtime to produce that many films. If you were to tell me that we produced that many in a year now, I wouldn't believe you. It is also very neat to see that so many big companies have survived in the movie industry since the 20's. You would think that more of them would have died out.
